you might be shocked to see final destination 3 called an fmv game, and in its theatrical or even standard dvd version, it's not! it's a fairly standard gore horror movie with a good cast and scenes that gave me nightmares as a kid because i saw this just way too young. now on the dvd, you can find what i'm talking about, on the second disc is a mode called "choose their fate" a mode that lets you make decisions at various points, be it a direction to go in, the outcome of a coin flip and a few other things and all of these change the movie, one choice is the canon one and if you pick all of these you get the movie as it goes normally, but others will give you vastly different outcomes. for example picking the wrong coin toss at the beginning will end the movie at the 10 min mark or choosing one character to dodge out of the way near the movies end will give you an entirely alternate take of the ending, leaving it much spookier and open, completely ditching the gory final kills of the movies actual ending, though even that final ending scene has an alternate version you can choose if you want to, for the most part your choices do kind of boil down to just alternate death scenes but the choices that matter do really change up things a lot and make it feel more like your choices do matter at least to some degree, making it feel more gamey than it really is because it is kind of just a bunch of alt takes and deleted scenes stitched into the movie in a creative way moreso than a deliberate attempt to gamify it, but it kind of feels gamey anyway, in the same way i think as an until dawn kind of situ and it has the vibe of how i feel an until dawn game would have been had it have came out on the ps1 or the ps2. the movie itself is fine beyond that, it's a standard gore movie, has a good cast, some cool effects and it is stuck deep in that mid 2K's emo vibe that i personally adore, it feels 2006 in the best way, though i'm just not into this kind of movie these days, it's really mostly worth experiancing from this side mode, though that side mode is where the main barrier to entry can be. naturally it's exclusive to the dvd, i couldn't find a rip that had the dvd menu and so i had to track down a physical copy, no streaming version would probably ever have this either since i mean, most people kind of dont care, while a different example ill show later proves it can be done, it'll probably never happen so you'll need to track down the original dvd, which is thankfully dirt cheap and something to play it on, in my case i used my ps3, if you can do this it's well worth it though, it's fun and unique and it makes for a cozy night viewing with some snacks.

also of note is the main time this did work on streaming in a big, cool way, black mirror: bandersnatch. it's a movie about games, in particular being based on a real game called bandersnatch for british pcs, but also being about the choices made in games and the morality of those choices, it's made by people who know and care a lot about games and that passion for the medium really shines through in it. it's got a lot going on, a charming story with a good cast, some great writing and interesting choices, the choices are the real highlight here, where final destination was a little basic with them bandersnatch has a lot more going on, theres a lot of actual lines of choices here, each playthrough will be mostly unique for a while and it has full on secrets, easily more than 5 endings and a lot of small variations that make for a lot of replayability. it helps that the scenes of these choices also are actully interesting, it's a good story that uses 4th wall breaks and the medium super well to tell its story, characters will make fun of you for wanting more action packed choices, some will be aware of their status and your choices and it gives it all a really strange vibe, almost hostile to you even being there, the player is essentially the villain here, ruining this poor mcs life, it's a lot more experimental and interesting than you'd ever expect out of netflix.
