(mini blogpost) i couldn't figure out page music so i just threw on what i was listening to, feel free to mute but this song kind of owns though, i've had a rough week so this is about as much as i feel i can write about, i don't know much about movies anyway lol, i watch like 1 every few months and they're almost all video game movies.
borderlands is being touted as one of the worst movies of the year, ever made even, and surprise for the woman who'll happily defend basically anything, I enjoyed it, a lot even and I think it really shines a light on why I've never vibed with a lot of the whole, moviebro film critic scene on the whole, people just can't have fun. I saw the movie at a preview screening a day before it fully came out (yes i'm super late here) and it was admittedly a dead screening, we were the only ones there and that was a little sad, the movie feels destined to be somewhat of a bomb, maybe even a big one, not quite on the level of like a spirits within but it's not looking good and that's a shame, I think it'll have its audience for sure, it's not going to be a speed racer, repo or southland tales tier cult classic but it'll have its defenders like the resi movies, and it's fun in the same way as those resis are, or street fighter 93, it's just a dumb popcorn movie with fun references and dumb dialogue and action scenes good enough to keep you interested, sure it's not the funniest movie you'll see and I also dislike kevin hart and jack blacks voice doesn't super fit claptrap but it has cate blanchet as Lilith? with game accurate hair??? this makes up for so much and anyone calling her miscast is crazy, she's so fun and she's clearly enjoying herself with it, also she's really pretty and I really don't need to add anything else beyond that, krieg and tiny tina also super nail their roles, sure there wasn't like, a ton to the former character but he has some cool scenes and the guy has *presance*, tiny tina is also a lot less abrasive than the games, though her being way more subdued does make her not super feel like the character? but the girl playing her does a good job with it, even the side cast do fine like, did you see the mad moxxi???? how can this be bad?????? the other big criticism I see online is that "oh its guardians of the galaxy at home" which is a label thrown at basically any action comedy now, it always smells to me to be a criticism by people who almost solley watch marvel slop and have no point of comparison otherwise, it's just lame.
like, to me the most fun game movies are the ones that are just dumb B-movies, the ones that are supposedly the best game adaptations, your fallouts and your last of us's and your live action sonics I find are good because they're good genre movies and shows, but they're so GOD DAMN BORING, I really dislike the live action sonics and that sucks because I love sonic! from adventure to 06 to unleashed but it's like, the singular piece of sonic I dislike, same with fallout, I love 3 and NV and even 4 and 76, but the show was just very boring to me, maybe i'm the crazy one, I don't know, but I like these movies at their most schlocky, uwe boll is one of my favourites for that very reason, while postal is an awful movie, alone in the dark and house of the dead are so fun and this is in that vein for me, it's dumb and fun and it has enough of a vibe from the games that I had fun with it, I feel like it'll have its cult following in a few years, it's not like critics are a real authority on anything, just like games movies are all subjective and quality doesn't exist, so watch and make up your own mind, you know, it's only 2 hours long so it's not going to take up a whole day and you'll get some cool settings from the game (like sanctuary and firestone) and some funnily bad CGI and a maybe offensive portrayal of an autistic woman but one that at least seems to be coming from a good place and the action is fun too, like there's a really cool escape scene with the psychos and it's a great time, the movies highlight, I liked it, but it could have used a better music sting, like if that scene had the borderlands 1 OP that'd have been way cooler.
